On the Historical Origin of Zhouyi
Reporter: You have studied the Book of Changes for many years and established many management theories on the basis of the Book of Changes. Can you tell us how the Book of Changes originated?
Ganquan: China, with a history of 5,000 years of civilization, is a country with an earlier cultural maturity. Politicians and thinkers of past dynasties have left us with a grand way to govern the country. In Cohesive Biography, Confucius said: The ancient king Fu was the king of the world. When he looked up, he observed the phenomenon of the sky; when he looked down, he observed the method of the earth, the culture of all animals, the suitability of the earth, and took all things near and far, which led to rumors. With God's virtue and love for all things.
Fu's ancient "gossip" began with observation. After observing heaven, earth, people and things in general, he summed up the results and made them into the ideological symbols of gossip. This is the procedure of philosophical thinking. Starting from the immediate natural phenomena, through observation, synthesis and comparison, the * * * essence of everything is obtained, and then an image number is induced and created to represent this * * * essence. The first sentence of this passage says that gossip is produced by summarizing the nature of all things, so it can "communicate" the virtue of all things ("virtue" is virtue); The latter sentence is characterized by universality, so it can be divided into eight categories according to the actual situation of everything (referring to eight kinds of gossip, such as heaven, earth, thunder, wind, water, fire, mountains and rivers).
Who wrote the Book of Changes? What kind of book is it?
Reporter: You have studied the Book of Changes for many years and established many management theories on the basis of the Book of Changes. Many people think that the Book of Changes is a fortune-telling book and a superstition. what do you think?
Gan Quan: The Book of Changes is a collective work. The style and content of the Book of Changes are not mastered by one person at a time and place. Divination is an important aspect of ancient civilization in China. In Xia and Shang dynasties, there was an important method of communication between ghosts and gods, and divination was one of the ways of communication between ghosts and gods. But divination itself is diverse, such as burning tortoise shells or ox bones, and the method of enlightenment is found in cracked lines. The explanation that the occupier carved what he wanted and lines on the Oracle bones has been passed down to this day. (Oracle Bone Inscriptions) When this divination activity spread to the Zhou culture tradition, it was improved by the Zhou people, and a complete concept and symbol system was established. On the one hand, (Gua Yi Ci) recorded the things occupied at that time and their explanations in words, on the other hand, (Gua Yi Ci) established a new divination rule, (the number of great Yan). Later, Confucius and his disciples annotated Zhouyi, and completed the book Yi Zhuan, which is today's Zhouyi, that is, the compilation style of Jing Zhuan. In short, divination culture is a traditional civilized activity handed down from ancient times in China. Today's Book of Changes is the collective creation of Zhou Wenwang and other early Zhou philosophers, and the circulating part is the collection of thoughts of Confucius and his school during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Therefore, on the one hand, Zhouyi is a collective work, on the other hand, it has absorbed some aspects of pre-Qin philosophers because of its long writing time, but it is still an important classic of pre-Qin Confucianism.
The gossip secret behind the Book of Changes
Reporter: You have studied the Book of Changes for many years and established many management theories on the basis of the Book of Changes. What kind of book is the Book of Changes?
Ganquan: Three thousand years ago in Zhou Wenwang, it interpreted the eight diagrams into sixty-four hexagrams and made hexagrams for each one. Since then, the Book of Changes has become a classic. When Fu's gossip philosophy appeared, it was the beginning of the animal husbandry era in history. People are struggle for existence with the weather and environment in nature, and human nature is not obvious. Therefore, gossip represents eight natural phenomena: "heaven, earth, thunder, wind, water, fire, mountains and harmony". By the time of Zhou Wenwang, humanism had made great progress, the ethical system of all humanitarian facilities such as family, country and society had been established, and material life had also made great progress. At this time, what people urgently need is how to have a standard of noble personality as the ideal goal of life. Zhou Wenwang responded to the times and accomplished this great cause. The basic principle of system science shows that the structure of the system determines the function of the system, and the evolution process of the system is the process in which the basic elements (material, information and energy) of the system pursue balance. After the Eight Diagrams were changed into sixty-four hexagrams in Zhouyi, a universal natural law-harmony was planned for life and change through the changes of six hexagrams, the differences between Yin and Yang, the relationship between different hexagrams, the progressive evolution law of different levels, and the interaction between systems and levels and the environment (exchange of energy, information and material). Yin and Yang are born together, and the five elements are born together, which shows people the harmonious philosophical thoughts such as information symmetry, material balance of Yin and Yang, and energy conservation contained in the movement of things, and breeds rich systematic scientific thoughts of cybernetics, information theory and system theory. Zhou Wenwang's outstanding philosopher, wisdom and profound insight have become the treasure house admired by China people for 3,000 years and the source of China's culture and philosophy.
Is the Book of Changes a superstition or a treasure book of enterprise management?
Reporter: Professor Gan, as far as we know, in recent years, you have been advocating the use of China's Book of Changes to build China's management philosophy in business schools of well-known universities such as Tsinghua, Peking University, National People's Congress and Beijing Normal University and many high-level forums for entrepreneurs. At the same time, I heard that on the basis of studying the Book of Changes for many years, you founded holographic management theory and tissue gene theory, which combined Chinese and western management ideas and technologies. However, many people still think that the Book of Changes is superstitious, and even some famous scholars such as Yang Zhenning and He Zuoxiu think that the Book of Changes and the five elements of Yin and Yang are pseudoscience, which is a cultural obstacle to the development of China's nuclear society. Can you talk about your own views?
Gan Quan: I firmly oppose national nihilism. The so-called experts and scholars, each of whom has his own research field, have made impressive achievements. However, there is no scientific basis for them to express their opinions at will without in-depth research, understanding or half-knowledge in this field. Scholars such as Yang Zhenning and He Xiuxiu are great scientists, but I think the above views expressed by them are actually contrary to the scientific spirit, irresponsible and cultural nihilism, and it is impossible to be accepted by the public. You are a physics student. Can you operate on the patient? As a well-known expert, can you explain the birth and collision laws of different galaxies in the universe and other very professional cosmic physics? The Book of Changes is the cultural treasure of China and the crystallization of the wisdom of the Chinese nation. We should seriously study and explore, instead of being suspicious and uncertain about the culture of our motherland. This is the philosophy of foreign slaves. No one got sick and went to the vet; No matter how stupid a person is, it is impossible to believe the prescription given to us by an architect, right? A nation that is not confident and does not recognize its own cultural value has no future.
Reporter: Yijing was born 3000 years ago. Judging from Fuxi's gossip, the origin of Yijing has a history of at least seven or eight thousand years, but enterprise management is a modern problem. What is the relationship between them?
Gan Quan: "Man practices the earth, the earth practices the sky, the sky practices the Tao, and the Tao is natural". Yi is the source of China culture, which came into being before Oracle Bone Inscriptions and is a portrayal of our ancestors' experience in astronomy, geography, history and living environment. Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism are all formed by Yi. Taoism advocates nature, Confucianism advocates ethics, and Buddhism advocates consciousness. "Heaven is healthy, the gentleman strives for self-improvement", "The terrain is vast, and the gentleman carries things with morality". As the saying goes: "from scratch, you can get things done." Easy to know, simple to know. Easy to know, simple to follow. People who are easy to know make friends, and people who are easy to follow make contributions. Having relatives can last a long time, and having merits can be great. It can be a long-term sage's virtue or a sage's career. However, without its own cultural matrix, how can we communicate and reorganize with western culture? The modernization of China management should be China with its own characteristics. Enterprise management is a kind of science, art and culture, and it should be the expression of national culture in enterprise behavior. The inevitable result of ignoring national culture and imitating western management unilaterally is that Handan is a toddler, not only can't learn western management science well, but finally his own treasure will be lost, causing irreparable losses to enterprises. The thought of Yi-ology can provide lofty value and guidance for Chinese enterprise management. Your proposition is to talk more about "China's management philosophy" and less about "Chinese management". Can you talk about the relationship between the Book of Changes and China's management philosophy? What is the value to modern enterprise management in China?
Gan Quan: The essence of Yi-ology is management philosophy. The natural law of Yi-ology, the law of structure determining function and the holographic structure model still have high theoretical guidance and practical application value today. It contains not only rich humanistic spirit and ethical value principles, but also advanced management concepts and rules, and rich management methods, tools and models. The thought of Yi-ology has the functions of systematic analysis, scientific diagnosis, overall optimization and strategic framework for management elements and enterprise resources such as leadership, planning, prediction, decision-making, organization, balance, communication, reform and control of modern management research. Reporter: After reading some of your articles, you think that the cultural structure of China determines the unique character of the Chinese nation and the ideological spirit and civilization inheritance of our whole nation. Can you introduce the structural model of China culture?
Ganquan: From Fuxi to the Three Emperors and Five Emperors, and then to the Western Zhou Dynasty and the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, it lasted for thousands of years. Until the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, with the origin of the Book of Changes, a hundred schools of thought contended, and the theory of "Nine Schools and Ten Learning" put forward by Liu Xin in the Seven Views of Zhuzi in the Western Han Dynasty appeared. "Nine streams" refer to Taoists, Confucianists, Mohists, famous artists, legalists, yin and yang scholars, strategists, peasants and miscellaneous scholars. Reporter: You applied the basic principles of the Book of Changes and China's philosophical tradition, combined with modern western management ideas, theories and methods, and established holographic management theory and tissue gene theory. Can you briefly introduce the theoretical framework? What role does it play in enterprise management practice?
Gan Quan: My two basic ideas come from the integration of the Book of Changes and the philosophy of modern management science. The basic theoretical viewpoints are summarized as follows: the DNA of an enterprise organization determines personality characteristics, growth speed, health status, beauty and ugliness, physical quality, development form and so on. The behavior and life cycle of enterprise organizations are influenced by the interaction between organizational genetic DNA and competitive environment. The process of organizational growth consciously or unconsciously follows the principle of organizational genes, and its basic laws are also consistent with it.
