Yin-yang and Five Elements is a philosophical concept in ancient China, and it is a simple materialistic view of the ancients' understanding of nature.

"Yi" said: "Those who are prone to Tai Chi will also have two devices." The so-called "two instruments" are yin and yang, so it is easy to say: "One yin and one yang is the Tao." Yin and Yang refer to the contradiction of things, such as day and night, cold and heat, length, gender, male and female, movement, rigidity and softness, and so on.

The five elements are a more detailed analysis of everything in the world. The ancients believed that the world was composed of five basic elements: gold, wood, water, fire and earth, and further believed that these five elements were mutually transformed and restricted, thus transforming and restricting each other, forming the structure and interest of everything in the world. The transformation of five elements can be divided into two types:

1. Xiangsheng: Jinshui, aquatic wood, Muhuo, Huotu, Primary Gold.

There are two calendars in ancient and modern times, the solar calendar and the lunar calendar. The solar calendar is like the Gregorian calendar (formerly known as julian calendar, and today's Gregorian calendar was formed after some modifications by Pope Gregory XIII in the16th century), and the lunar calendar is like the Muslim calendar commonly used in Muslim countries. The main difference between the two calendars is that the solar calendar takes the orbit of the earth around the sun (relative to the earth, it is the orbit of the sun around the ecliptic) as the tropic year, which is divided into twelve months on average, and then divided into large and small flat leap months to make up the rest. The advantage of the solar calendar is that the four seasons are distinct and accurate; The lunar calendar strictly follows the period when the moon shines, because it does not take into account the period when the earth revolves, so it is impossible to accurately divide the boundaries of the four seasons. The traditional lunar calendar in China is actually a combination of yin and yang. The so-called twenty-four solar terms divide the 360-degree angle of the earth's revolution around the sun into 24 points, that is, every time the sun moves eastward 15 degrees in the longitude of the Yellow River, it is a "qi", which moves 360 degrees ***24 qi. In the lunar calendar, these 24 solar terms are named beginning of spring, Rain, Thorn, Equinox, Qingming, Grain Rain, Long Summer, Xiaoman and Mangzhong. Among them, twelve solar terms, such as beginning of spring, Jingzhe, Qingming, Changxia, Mangzhong, Xiaoshu, beginning of autumn, Bailu, Hanlu, beginning of winter, Heavy Snow and Slight Cold, are called "solar terms", and the rest are called "Zhongqi". Solar terms are usually considered as lunar calendar, but they are actually calculated strictly according to the tropic year and belong to the lunar calendar model. The division of years and months used in the four-column arrangement is also strictly in accordance with the solar terms, rather than the usual division of years and months in the lunar or solar calendar. This is the basic principle of four-column arrangement, which makes the four-column arrangement unaffected by calendar changes and maintains its accuracy. More importantly, it takes the tropic year as the chronological symbol, conforms to the rhythm of the four seasons and follows the causal relationship of the cycle of heaven, which are the theoretical basis of numerology.
