At night, when there is no compass and no other signs to tell the direction, Polaris can be used to tell the direction.

First of all, we should find two famous constellations: Ursa major and Fairy Queen. Polaris can be found by using either of these two constellations.

Ursa major is a spoon-shaped constellation composed of seven bright stars, called the Big Dipper, also known as the spoon star. (see photo)

Fairy queen constellation is a W-shaped constellation composed of five bright stars. (see photo)

Generally, Ursa Major (the seven stars of the Big Dipper) is used to find the North Star. Five times the distance between the two stars at the end of the spoon, there is a brighter star, Polaris. Polaris can also be found where the star in the middle of the gap direction of the constellation Cassiopeia (W star) extends forward about twice.
