What kind of bird is migratory bird?

Migratory birds are birds that migrate periodically with different seasons.

Many birds have the characteristics of seasonal migration along latitude. In summer, these birds breed in temperate regions with higher latitudes, and in winter, they spend the winter in tropical regions with lower latitudes.

In late summer and early autumn, these birds move from the breeding ground to the wintering ground, and in spring, they return to the breeding ground and fly north. These birds that migrate north and south with the seasons are called migratory birds.

Migration time of migratory birds:

Different migratory birds migrate at different times. Large birds and raptors tend to migrate during the day and rest at night because of their large size or fierce nature, and use the updraft caused by sunlight during the day to save energy.

However, more migratory birds, including smaller grain-eating birds, wading birds, geese and ducks, choose to migrate at night, dormant during the day and forage. Birds that choose to migrate at night will be extremely active in the early morning. On some bird paths, the early bird calls in the migration season can even wake people who are sleeping.

Studies have shown that birds that migrate during the day mostly use the sun or ground landscape to navigate and locate, while birds that migrate at night use moonlight and constellations to navigate. Some birds migrate day and night when crossing deserts and oceans because they have no place to stand.
