What blood type is panda blood?

Panda blood usually refers to Rh-negative blood, which is a very rare blood type, so it is commonly known as "panda blood" among all types of Rh-negative blood, and AB-type Rh-negative blood is the rarest.

Rh is the first two letters of rhesus monkey mbth (the Chinese name of Rh blood group system is rhesus monkey blood group system). Human red blood cell blood group consists of more than 20 blood group systems, ABO and Rh blood groups are the two blood group systems most closely related to human blood transfusion.

The biggest difference between Rh-negative blood, that is, panda blood and ordinary Rh-positive blood lies in the existence of D antibody in red blood cells. When a person's red blood cells have antibody D, they are Rh positive, which is expressed by Rh(+). When the D antigen is missing, it is Rh negative, which is expressed by Rh(-).

Rh blood group system mainly includes five different antigens, which are called C, C, D, E and E respectively. Among the five antigens, D antigen has the strongest antigenicity. Therefore, only D antigen is usually detected in clinic, and those containing D antigen are called Rh positive.

In addition, the probability of Rh-negative blood being born in different races is different. The probability of Rh negative blood in Caucasians is the highest, about 15%.

In most cases, a person's blood type is determined by antigens composed of some heritable glycoproteins and sugar chains on the surface of red blood cells. So far, more than 30 such blood group systems have been discovered.

Among them, ABO blood group system composed of A, AB, B and O is the most common, and the blood group system of rhesus monkey is the most complicated in classifying red blood cells.

In Asia, more than 99.5% people are RhD positive, and less than five thousandths of people are RhD negative. It is precisely because of its rarity that RhD-negative blood has won the title of "panda blood".
