8. Xiaoguo Temple

brief introduction

Located at the foot of Huading Mountain, it is one of the famous ancient temples in China and is regarded as the birthplace of China and Japanese Buddhism. Together with Lingyan Temple in qi zhou (in today's Changqing County, Shandong Province), qixia temple in Runzhou (in today's Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province) and yuquan temple in Jingzhou (in today's Dangyang County, Hubei Province), it is called the "four wonders" of the world. Congress Temple was built in the 18th year of Emperor Wendi (598), based on the style painted by Zhiyi, the founder of Tiantai Sect. After Zhiyi founded Tiantai Sect, he wanted to build a temple as the official ancestral home of the Sect, but due to limited funds, he could not start construction. On his deathbed, he wrote a suicide note to the king of Jin, saying, "If you don't see the temple, you will hate it." Yang Guang, King of Jin (later Yang Di), was very moved after reading this book, so he sent Sima Wang Hong to supervise the construction of imperial academy. The newly-built Congress Temple is located at the front slope of Bagui Peak, about 100 meters behind the Ursa Major Hall. In the middle of Tang Huichang (about 845), the original temple was destroyed by fire and rebuilt immediately.
