Eric rohmer was born in Nancy, eastern France, on April 4, 1920, as Jean-Marie Maurice scherer. Hou Mai started as a teacher, but soon turned to film criticism. Eric rohmer was an important figure in the French New Wave Movement in 1960s, who was as famous as Godard and Truffaut. He directed more than forty works.

The first series consists of six moral stories (1962- 1972), namely, The Baker in Mouzo, Susanna's Story, Collecting Men and Women, One Night in Madder's House, Knee Crashing and Love in the Afternoon.

In 2007, Hou Mai promised to go to Venice Film Festival with his new work "Romance of Goddess and Goddess", but suddenly sent a "leave letter" to Marco Müller, president of Venice Film Festival, because of his unstable health. Without Hou Mai's press conference, several young faces are as beautiful and relaxed as his new film.

The famous French director eric rohmer died in Paris, France, at the age of 89. Hou Mai's death was announced by his producer Margaret Menegoz, and Hou Mai's relatives revealed that he had been in hospital for a week.
