Academician of China Academy of Sciences, educator and scientist of the older generation of modern higher education in China.

1906 was admitted to Tangshan Railway and Mining School (now Southwest Jiaotong University, with the same "*"), with the student number 1 19. Beginner in mining, and later changed to railway management. 1909 went to study in the United States, studied coal mining engineering in colorado school of mines, and obtained the degree of mining engineer, and then obtained the master of science degree in the research institute of Lihai University. 19 14, he returned to China and became a professor in Peking University. Later, he became the head of the Department of Geology in Peking University, which was the earliest geological department established in China. It has successively published the Journal of Peking University National Geological Research Association and the Journal of Peking University National Geological Society, which is also an earlier publication in China's geological circles. 1920 initiated the establishment of China Mining and Metallurgy Engineering Society as a director. 1925 transferred to Tianjin Beiyang University (now Tianjin University), served as the dean and provost of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy. He used to be the chairman of the school affairs maintenance Committee, acting as the school affairs agent. 193 1 was appointed as the head and dean of the Department of Geology, School of Science, Sun Yat-sen University. He attaches great importance to the introduction of new knowledge and technology at home and abroad, and the textbooks are rewritten and supplemented every year. Under his leadership, he collected a lot of data in the geological and mineral surveys in Guangdong and Guangxi. The equipment for collecting and identifying ore samples in Guangdong and Guangxi Geological Survey has reached a fairly high level, and many publications and geological maps have been published. 1937' s Celebrity Picture Book of the Republic of China recorded his deeds. From the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression to the early days of national liberation, he served as professor and head of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Tangshan Institute of Technology, his alma mater. 1952, Tangyuan Mining Department became the foundation of Beijing Mining Institute (now China University of Mining and Technology). He Jie was transferred to Beijing to build Beijing Institute of Mining and Technology, and successively served as provost and vice president. He once organized people to edit an English-Chinese mining vocabulary for teaching and scientific research. After the "Cultural Revolution", he drafted a "Opinions on Developing Mining Research in China" and submitted it to the leading department. 1978, he attended the national science conference held in Beijing, and was the oldest representative in the conference. 1953, he was elected as the first and second standing committee of Beijing CPPCC, and attended the second National People's Congress as a representative of CPPCC. 1964 was elected as the representative of the Third National People's Congress.

He Jie was originally an engineering professor in Peking University, and later served as the head of the Department of Geology. He was the earliest geology department in China universities. He Jie served as the department head for 7 years. Courses taught include:

Introduction to Geology, Economic Geology, China Mineral Monographs, Mining Engineering, Iron and Steel Monographs, etc. He supported students to organize geological research societies and geological societies to carry out academic activities, and successively published the Journal of the National Geological Research Society of Peking University and the Journal of the National Geological Society of Peking University, which were the earlier publications in China's geological circles.

During his stay at Peking University, He Jie participated in the struggle led by Li Dazhao against the interference of Beiyang warlords in school administration and the deduction of school education funds together with professors such as Ma Yinchu, Hu Shi, Wang Shijie, Gu and Li Siguang.

From 65438 to 0925, He Jie transferred to Tianjin Beiyang University and served as the provost of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy. Beiyang University is the earliest university of science and engineering in China. During his tenure at Beiyang University, he assisted Liu Xianzhou, the president, in carrying out educational reform adapted to China's national conditions, and gradually began to use local teachers. Beiyang University was originally a provincial university, but later it was changed to a national university, and the president also changed. When the affiliation changed, the then Ministry of Education appointed He Jie as the chairman of the school affairs maintenance committee to act as the school affairs agent. Later, Mao Yisheng became the principal, and He Jie remained the provost. 193 1 year, He Jie returned to Guangzhou, and successively served as the head of the Department of Geology of the Faculty of Science and the director of the Guangdong-Guangxi Geological Survey, making great contributions to the cultivation of geological talents in China, the geological survey in South China and the development of mineral resources.

When War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression broke out, He Jie was invited by Mao Yisheng to teach at his alma mater, Tangshan Institute of Technology, which had just moved to Pingyue County, Guizhou Province. From 65438 to 0940, he was transferred to Chongqing University as the head of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy, and concurrently served as the head of gold exploration in the Gold Bureau of the Resources Committee. 65438-0942 was re-appointed as Dean of Science College of Sun Yat-sen University, Head of Geology Department and Director of Guangdong-Guangxi Geological Survey. 1946 from Chongqing to Tangshan, he is the head of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of the National Tangshan Institute of Technology of his alma mater. 1947 was hired as the provost of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Guangxi University. After the liberation of Guilin, Guilin Military Management Committee appointed He Jie as the provost of Guangxi University.

After the founding of New China, He Jie returned to his alma mater, where he served as a professor at Tangshan Institute of Technology of China Jiaotong University and head of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy. 1952, faculty adjustment, transferred to China Institute of Mining and Technology, successively served as provost and vice president of Beijing Institute of Mining and Technology. During his administration, he combined teaching, scientific research and production, established various large-scale laboratories and conducted scientific research. Among them, mining machinery, hydraulic coal mining, dense medium beneficiation, graphite beneficiation and other projects, as well as mass mine reporting and mining movement, have the most significant scientific research and production benefits for mineral investigation and prospecting. He often asks about students' study, life and moral, intellectual and physical development, and takes the lead in setting an example and actively participates in various recreational activities of the school, which is respected and loved by teachers and students.

1962 1 month, geological society of china, the oldest natural science academic group in China, held its 40th anniversary meeting in Beijing. He Jie was elected to make a work report at the meeting, introducing the great development, achievements and contributions of China's socialist construction after liberation. 1In August, 964, He Jie participated in the international scientific seminar held in Beijing, and made a speech at the meeting, describing the development of new China mining industry and its scientific achievements.

After the downfall of the Gang of Four, He Jie drafted the Opinions on Developing China's Mining Research and submitted it. He also personally went to Beijing and suggested to his superiors to set up a graduate school in the original site of Beijing Institute of Mining and Technology to train senior mining talents. He also actively promoted China Institute of Mining and Technology to establish contact with colorado school of mines and carry out academic exchanges. From 65438 to 0978, he attended the National Science Conference held in Beijing. At the age of 90, he was the oldest delegate to attend the meeting. The State Council's Deputy Prime Minister Fang Yi visited him.

He Jie takes an active part in various political and social activities. In the early days of liberation, he participated in the Tianjin People's Congress as a representative of education.
