Why do wild pandas fall asleep after digging holes in the snow and drinking water?

On March 5, 20021KLOC-0, the staff of Longchi Management and Protection Station of Dujiangyan Management and Protection Station of Sichuan Giant Panda National Park collected infrared thermal imager data in Longchi area. After finishing, it was found that two cameras located in Zhaozhaoshan area of Longchi County photographed a wild panda at an altitude of 2,300 meters in two days this year, digging holes in the snow to find water. Drinking water is drunk and sleepy, and the picture is very cute. The puddle that the giant panda is looking for in the picture is an artificially assisted animal drinking point. Wild pandas have also formed the natural consciousness of this drinking point. Although ice and snow cover the drinking point in winter, giant pandas still drink water, shave ice and find water to drink.

The giant panda is a carnivore, and it is the only mammal in the subfamily Giant Panda and the genus Giant Panda. As fat as a bear, with a round head and a short tail. Weight 80- 120kg, maximum weight 180kg. The body color is black and white, the cheeks are round, and the dark circles are large, which has the symbolic walking posture of the internal constellation. Claws are as sharp as scalpels. The skin of the giant panda is very thick, and the thickest part can reach10 mm. The black-and-white appearance is conducive to hiding in dense forests and snow-covered ground, and it is not easy to be found by natural enemies. Living in a dense bamboo forest at an altitude of 2600-3500 meters, the air is thin all the year round, and the temperature is below 20℃. There are abundant bamboo forests, topography and water resources, which are beneficial for this species to nest and raise young.

Giant pandas are good at climbing trees and like to play. Usually, climbing a tree is a way for the weak to avoid danger or the strong when the marriage proposal approaches. The giant panda's eating time is reduced by half every day, and most of the rest time is spent sleeping. In the wild, giant pandas sleep for 2-4 hours every two meals. 99% of the panda's food is bamboo. Giant pandas can eat 12 bamboo plants with more than 60 species. In the wild, the life span of giant pandas is 18-20 years, and the captivity time may exceed 30 years.

According to reports, the drinking water point belongs to one of the animal supply point construction and follow-up monitoring projects in the key areas of panda activities in the protected area jointly carried out by Dujiangyan Management and Protection Station and the world. In order to effectively solve the problem that the available water resources on the surface of the key areas of giant panda activities are reduced due to earthquakes and subsequent disasters, which affects the normal reproduction of the same giant panda and its species, the project has built six similar water replenishment points in this area. Through tracking and monitoring, it is found that the drinking points of wild animals are used very frequently, which proves that the artificial auxiliary drinking water project is effective and solves the drinking difficulties of wild animals in this area after drinking water.
